Seth Sherlock wins junior DH at Lenzerheide World Cup

Canadian downhill junior national champion Seth Sherlock won his first ever World Cup on Saturday in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

The win is puts an exclamation mark on a standout season for Sherlock, and for Canadian junior downhill riders. The young Squamish rider has been on World Cup podiums several times already in 2019, but Lenzerheide is his first victory.

Sherlock’s World Cup “W” comes just weeks after winning the Canadian downhill national championships at Panorama Mountain Resort.

Just 0.462 seconds was the winning margin, after three minutes three seconds of racing in Switzerland. Joseph Klaus of Switzerland was second, and Tuhoto-Ariki Pene of New Zealand third.

Lenzerheide has been a good course for Canadians. It’s the same venue where Elliot Jamieson won bronze in the junior downhill world championships in 2018, and where Emily Batty won bronze in the elite women’s cross country championships the same year.

This weekend, Elliot Jamieson was fourth, finishing on the same second as Pene.

Lucas Cruz was the third Canadian in the junior men’s downhill final in Lenzerheide. Cruz placed 13th.

Cruz’s SRAM-TLD racing teammate Valentina Höll put down another dominant performance in the junior women’s race. The Austrian won by 29 seconds over Frances Nastasia Gimenez, with American Anna Newkirk in third.
