SRAM is recalling Zipp front wheel hubs and quick releases over safety concerns. Health Canada, the U.S. Consumer Protection Safety Commision and SRAM have warned Zipp owners to stop riding their wheels immediately until it can be confirmed whether their aluminum front hubs or quick releases are part of the recall. The safety concern is that the front hub flange and the affected quick releases can fail because of incorrect manufacturing, posing a serious crash risk.

The model names of the affected aluminum hubs are Zipp 88v6, 88v7,88v8. They can be identified by the Z logo printed on the smoked coloured flange ring or by their large flange ring and clinch nut. The hubs come in black, silver and falcon grey; the diameter of the clinch nut is approximately 3.71 cm. Zipp hubs with no flange rings are unaffected by the recall. Some of the hubs were also sold on wheelsets that came on Cannondale, Jamis, Felt and Specialized bikes between 2009 and 2013, while others came on individual wheelsets

Affected by a separate recall are Zipp quick releases. They were sold as aftermarket components and as part of the 202 DB V2, 303 DB V2, 404 Firestrike V2, 202 Firecrest V3, 303 Firecrest V3, 404 Firecrest V3, 808 Firecrest V3 or 808 NSW wheelsets. The quick releases affected can be identified by their curved, black lever. The Zipp logo appears on the top of the lever. Only quick releases without a marking at the center of the underside of the lever, below the Zipp logo are included in this recall. They were sold between March 2015 through December 2015.
