Matthew Modine will star in the new cycling drama Hard Miles. The film, which is based on a true story about at-risk youth who have been given a second chance in life, is in production in Los Angeles. The story follows Ridge View Academy which was created in the early 1990s, to handle the steady rise of juvenile offenders in Colorado.

For years, the school helped kids by providing counselling, education, and a shot to try various competitive sports, including cycling.

R.J. Daniel Hanna is directing the film, which was written by Hanna  and Christian Sanders. Modine will be playing Greg Townsend, who led the team at Ridge View for the last three decades. Former professional cyclists Christian Vande Velde and George Hincapie are acting as consultants for the film, with Hincapie Sportswear providing cycling clothes for the actors.

Modine is a Golden Globe and SAG Award winner and plays Dr. Martin Brenner in hit series, Stranger Things. He is also known for his iconic role as Private/Sergeant J.T. “Joker” Davis in Full Metal Jacket.
