Strava art created in honour of Michael Woods worlds bronze medal

Runner traces Woodsy into the streets of North Vancouver in celebration of world championship performance

Michael Woods made Canadian cycling history on Sunday riding to bronze in the elite men’s world championship road race in Innsbruck, Austria. Woods was a world class runner as a young man but after three years on the WorldTour, it’s clear he’s established himself as one of the most talented climbers in cycling. To celebrate Woods’ bronze medal, Noah Bloom of Vancouver created some Strava art.

The North Vancouver-resident headed out for a run on a cold damp day. Over 16 km, he traced Woodsy onto the streets of Vancouver.

“Today, in a soaking wet Vancouver morning, I ran for Woodsy. Yesterday, at the road cycling world champs, something incredible happened: a Canadian rider defined the pivotal part of the race and took home the bronze medal. Canada hasn’t had a men’s world champs medal in over 30 years, and now @rusty_woods was challenging the best in the sport. He’s also a great guy. So fun to have someone to cheer for at the highest level like this,” wrote Bloom in his Instagram post which showed the picture of the Strava art, a photo of Woods at worlds and a selfie of the slightly damp conditions.
