With the UCI BMX World Championships approaching this month, Team Canada has announced its roster of 11 BMX riders to represent the country when competition kicks off in Zolder, Belgium.

Happening from July 21 to the 25, it’s the biggest international event in competitive BMX riding, offering the opportunity to earn critical Olympic qualification points. This year, the Canadian squad is headlined by 2014 silver medalist Tony Nyhaug in the Elite men category, who took second in last year’s main final. Another veteran of the 2014 event heading to Belgium this month is Daina Tuchsherer, whose performance in the BMX Supercross earned her an 8th place finish, with a 6th place ride in the time trial. She’s joined in the junior women category by Drew Mechielsen.

Also riding in the Elite men’s squad is Jim Brown, James Palmer and Brandon Reid. Two-time Canadian champion Amelia Walsh, meanwhile, is Canada’s lone representative in the Elite women category.

In the junior men division, Canada has selected four first-timers to the UCI BMX World Championship, a crew led by Alex Tougas, known to BMX fans as a two-time Boys Challenge World Champion. The other rookies carrying the Canadian banner in Belgium are Deven Kawa, Gaby Malenfant and Christopher White.

Last year’s gold medal at the UCI BMX World Championships went to Australia’s Sam Willouhby, otherwise known as the “BMX bandit.”
