Ten Canadians to line up for first cyclocross World Cup of the season

Rochette, Van den Ham and West among the Canucks in Waterloo

Sunday is the start of the 2018-2019 UCI Cyclocross World Cup in Waterloo, Wisconsin. Among the 91 athletes will be ten Canadians, including national elite men’s champion Michael van den Ham and national under-23 women’s champion Ruby West.

In the men’s race, Smithers, BC’s own Craig Richey, Trevor O’Donnell, Brody Sanderson, Gunnar Holmgren and Isaac Niles will join van den Ham.

Maghalie Rochette, fresh off a win at RenoCross, Siobhan Kelly, Dana Gilligan and West are in the women’s race.

Last season, Waterloo was the second round of the World Cup with Iowa the first. In dry, dusty conditions, Sanne Cant and Mathieu van der Poel were the winners, while Christel Ferrier Bruneau and van den Ham were the top Canadians in the elite races, 9th and 29th respectively.
