Three athletes make up the 2018 class of the Canadian Cycling Hall of Fame

Linda Jackson, Eric Wohlberg and Nora Young will be honoured at a ceremony on Sept. 30

Cycling Canada will add three new members to the Canadian Cycling Hall of Fame at a ceremony at a ceremony at the Glencairn Golf Club in Milton, Ont. on Sept. 30. The event takes place in conjunction with the Canadian track championships. The hall of fame was created in 2015 to celebrate the contributions of athletes to the sport of cycling in Canada. Linda Jackson, Eric Wohlberg and Nora Young will join the nineteen members who have already been inducted.

Jackson entered cycling at the age of 32 and went on to earn a bronze medal at the 1996 world championships in road cycling. During her career, she also earned medals at the Commonwealth Games. In 2004, after retiring she founded the Tibco-Silicon Vallye Bank program with is the longest-running professional women’s cycling team in North America. Her additional contributions include being the director of the CCA – Hamilton 2003 Road Cycling Foundation which has supports road riders over the years.

Wohlberg is the sports director for Rally Cycling with the men’s team racing at the UCI pro continental level and has a successful women’s program. Numerous Canadians have raced professionally under Wohlberg. During his racing career, Wohlberg represented Canada at the Olympic Games, eight world championships and a Commonwealth Games. As a strong time trialist he was on the podium at the national championships ever year between 1996 and 2006.

Young who passed away in 2016 was one of Canada’s top female road cycling in the 1930s and 1940s. As an early Canadian Cycling pioneer, she distinguished herself in top-level races that were open to women. In the 60s, 70s and 80s she continued riding winning master’s competitions throughout the world.

The Canadian Cycling Hall of Fame celebration of the class of 2018 will kick-of on Sept. 30 with the Ride with Legends where participants will enjoy a VIP, fully-supported road in Halton Hills along of hall of fame inductees and current national team members. The Canadian Cycling Hall of Fame celebrations will be held on Sunday, September 30th at Glencairn Golf Club in Milton, ON. The event will kick-off in the morning with the third annual Lexus Ride with Legends, where guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a VIP, fully-supported road ride in the Halton Hills alongside many of Canada’s Hall of Fame inductees as well as current National Team athletes. The ride will be followed by the induction luncheon where the 2018 class will be honoured and celebrated.
