Development squad continues to mission to develop athletes on and off the bike

Heading into their 24th season, Trek​ ​Red-Truck​ ​powered by ​Mosaic​ ​Homes have added five new riders to their existing sable of athletes on the 2018 roster. After eight additions last off-season, the Vancouver-based squad continues with their mission to help talented Canadians reach their full potential as cyclists while supporting their academic pursuits.

“We can’t wait to get our 24th season underway! With a solid crew of new and returning faces to the 2018 team, it’s going to be another great season for the team and Trek Red Truck riders – on and off the bike, ” said team director Steve Engh.

Additions on the women’s side of the program include Isabella Bertold of Vancouver and Callie Swan of Victoria. Bertold is a 26-year-old world class sailor in the laser radical class who is making the transition to compeditive cycling. Swan is a 19-year-old from Victoria with a speed skating background who has developed with the Pacific Cycling Centre. The returning riders are Anika Todd, Anna Talman, Holly Simonson, Michelle Schaeffer and Erin Atwell.

On the men’s side, the team adds 19-year-old Colin Fowlow from Corner Brook, Newfoundland who now lives in Victoria, 18-year-old Erik Diertens of Victoria and 20-year-old Chris MacLeod also from Victoria. Returning riders on the men’s team include Clarke Lind, Kyle Buckosky, Brendan Armstrong and Alex Murison.

The team management is also changing with Evan Mundy moving on from the team and Brian Green stepping into his place as team manager for the men’s squad. Leading the women’s squad will be Leah Guloien who returns as the team manager. Clarke Lind and Anika Todd will support the team managers.

In 2017, the team sent Erin Atwell to the junior road world championships in Bergen, Norway. The team had six riders representing their provinces at the Canada Games in Winnipeg. Alex Murison won the men’s B.C. provincial road title.

Continuing it’s mission to support athletes in other parts of their lives, Trek Red Truck disbursed over $6,000 to team riders pursuing post-secondary educations. Since 2013, the team has awarded over $35,000 in scholarship funds to athletes in their program.

Over the years, Trek Red Truck have help top level Canadian cyclists progress in their careers. The team alumni is an impressive list of athletes which includes Svein Tuft (Orica-Scott), Leah Kirchman(Team Sunweb), Rob Britton (Rally Cycling), Sara Bergen (Rally Cycling), Ryan Anderson (Direct-Energie), Adam DeVos (Rally Cycling),  Gillian Ellsay (Rally Cycling) and Alison Beverage (Rally Cycling).
