The roster for the Vancouver-based development squad Trek Red Truck p/b Mosaic Homes is changing quite a bit for the 2017 season. It’s the life cycle of a development team: riders move up and riders move on. Trek Red Truck has seen it for 22 seasons.

“We wish the folks who have moved on from last year’s squad every bit of success,” says team director Steve Engh. “We’re really looking forward to welcoming all the new and returning faces to the 2017 team. It’s going to be another successful season for the team and TRT riders—on and off the bike.”

On the women’s side, new riders include Anika Todd, Holly Simonson, Michelle Schaeffer and Erin Attwell. Todd, formerly of Team Tibco-SVB, joins the team in a mentor role. Simonson, of Victoria, competed in the national championships as a junior in road, track and cyclocross. Attwell, also from B.C.’s capital, broke four Canadian records at the junior national track championships in April. Returning women include Leah Guloien, who has the role of road manager, Anna Talman and Gabby Traxler.

New to the men’s side are Clarke Lind, Robert Gutgesell, Alex Murison and Kurt Penno. Gutgesell wore the white jersey, for best amateur rider, after Stage 1 of the 2016 Redlands Bicycle Classic. Craig Richey, a national cyclocross powerhouse, Kyle Buckosky, Ty Andrews and Brendan Armstrong return to TRT in 2017.

Outgoing riders include Sara Bergen, who’s moved to on to the Canuck heavy Rally Pro Cycling with former TRT rider Allison Beveridge. Gillian Ellsay will be riding with Colavita/Bianchi in 2017. Denise Ramsden, 2012 Olympian and former national champion on the road, seems to be hanging up her wheels for good as she pursues a law degree at the University of Toronto. Kinley Gibson is off to Cyclery Racing for the road, but will also focus on track with an eye on Tokyo 2020. Cyclocrosser Michael van den Ham will put more time into Garneau Easton, for which both he and Richey ride in the fall and winter.
