A cyclist coming down Mount Lemmon in Tucson, Arizona at speed had a very unfortunate run-in with a deer over the weekend. The incredible footage was captured by a rear-facing action camera on the bike of the rider in front of him.
The encounter happened in the blink of an eye and was over in mere seconds. A deer crossing the road on a sunny day mistimed the crossing and a cyclist travelling at full speed ran directly into the frightened animal. Amazingly, the animal came between the two riders riding quite near to one another on the descent.
The rider didn’t have the chance to even respond. The crash happened at mile marker 17 on Mount Lemmon which is a popular training road for cyclists. The climb is 35 km long and averages 5 per cent.
The deer and rider were both sent to the pavement after the impact. The result for the rider was a shattered frame, road rash and a broken foot from the impact according to the poster on Youtube. A time stamp on the video lists it as being captured on Sunday, Jan. 20 just past 11 a.m. MST. Neither rider is identified in the post.
