Vos the boss: winning everything at Ladies Tour of Norway earns Dutch legend WorldTour lead

Alison Jackson's ninth on GC her 2018 WorldTour high mark

Marianne Vos (The Netherlands/WaowDeals Pro Cycling) dominated the last three weeks of the Women’s WorldTour to such an extent that she has taken over the lead of the individual standings. On Sunday Vos wrapped up the Ladies Tour of Norway title by winning her third consecutive stage, that is, all of the stages, to nick the purple WorldTour jersey from compatriot Anna van der Breggen of Boels-Dolmans. Vos has overcome a series of injuries to return to top of the heap.

Canadian Alison Jackson was ninth on GC, her best WorldTour result of the season. Another Canuck, van der Breggen’s teammate Karol-Ann Canuel, was unlucky to be denied a solo victory on Friday’s first stage, while Leah Kirchmann’s Sunweb rolled a fantastic Ladies Tour of Norway team time trial to hoist Thursday’s flowers. Kirchmann’s American teammate Coryn Rivera was runner-up on Sunday and third on GC.

Vos earned Monday’s one-day WorldTour Crescent VÃ¥rgÃ¥rda title with a brilliant positional attack through a corner. In late July she was runner up in the WorldTour RideLondon and earned plenty of WorldTour points by coming second in June’s Women’s Tour in Britain.

Vos has targeted Saturday’s next WorldTour one-day race, the GP de Plouay. Van der Breggen and third place Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton-Scott) will also line up in France for the fourth-from-last event of the 2018 series, as will Jackson, Canuel, Kirchmann and Gabrielle Pilote-Fortin of British squad WNT-Rotor Pro Cycling.
