A would-be thief ended up on the ground when the cyclists whose bike he was stealing tackled him. The incident took place outside of 360 Cycles in Clontarf north of Dublin, Ireland.

A cyclist who works at the shop as a bike mechanic was leaving and leaned his bike against the wall outside before stepping back inside. Two teenagers passing spotted the bike. A mere 17-seconds later one of them was mounting it to try and make off with the unattended green carbon bike.

The thief was spotted and the cyclist closed in at top speed before a spectacular take-down. The speed of the attempted theft was a good reminder that leaving a bike unattended, even just for a moment, is always risky.

“How quick can a bike be robbed?? Less than 17-seconds based on this video,” the shop posted along with the security video of the incident.

The cyclist was lucky to only incur a couple hundred dollars in damage to the bike and the frame was OK.

‘We would like to urge all bike owners to lock their bikes at all times even if you are just leaving it for under a minute,” the post continued.
