Watch: Passing triathlete hits horse and bruises rider at UK race

Race organizers launched an investigation after triathlete dangerously passed horse injuring rider

A horse rider was left rattled and bruised after racers at a triathlon in the UK showed poor riding skill and etiquette. Jennifer Katherine posted the video from horseback on her Facebook page that captured the poor display of riding by athletes in the Royal Windsor triathlon.

In the video, the horseback rider is seen riding on the road as athletes begin to pass. The horse and rider remain calm despite the speed and the proximity many of the triathletes are choosing to pass.

That’s until a large swarm of riders come speeding by, most choose to pass on the right but some dangerously squeeze through on the left.

One of the triathletes passing on the left clips the horse and the riders ankle, startling the horse and causing the rider to shout in anger.

“I am wearing a yellow hi-vis hat silk, coat, gloves and gilet. My horse is wearing a yellow hi-vis rug and breastplate. The cyclist smashes along the side of my horse, taking my stirrup in the handlebars and bruising up my ankle,” Katherine wrote in a message alongside the video. “My horse rears and bolts forward, taking off one of his back shoes.”

Katherine says there was no signage on the road to indicated a race was going on. Otherwise, she says she would not have been on the road.

Additionally, she explains the shocking conduct of the rider who hit her and her horse. “Nobody stopped and the cyclist that hit me seemed to show no remorse by what looks like him lifting his middle finger at me whilst riding off as I screamed,” she wrote.

“I felt victimised by many of the individuals on bicycles on that road at that time and particularly by the one individual that hit my horse and I,” she continued explaining that there is a lack of awareness on how to pass horses and other vulnerable road users including cyclists on the road.

“I realise it is a few select individuals and not in any way a reflection of the majority of cyclists out on our roads<' The race organizers and police have launched investigations into the incident
