Karen was a 53-year-old nurse who passed away after a five-year battle with breast cancer. The ride is a way for her friends, family and the community to continue her missions of building hope for cancer patients and their families. It was her two sons who first started the ride in 2002. The ride starts in Markham, Ont. with routes taking participants through the valleys and farmlands north of Toronto. Registration costs $100. If you raise $250 the entry fee is waived. Aim higher and you will also get a ride jersey and bib shorts.
The event provides lunch, a BBQ afterwards and feed stations along the routes. All proceeds in 2018 will go towards sending children with cancer to camp.
