The cyclocross season may feel like it’s just begun but in a few short months, Canada’s best will congregate in Peterborough, Ont. for the 2018 Canadian Cyclocross Championships on Nov. 9 to 11.

The event draws the Canadian season to a close for domestic racers. Canadians who perform well will get the chance to represent Canada at the world championships while Canada’s top tier of racers will extend their season overseas with a block of racing in Europe during the winter months.

The 2018 championships will take place in Nicholl’s Oval Park. The park actually has an earlier history with cycling having hosted criteriums in the early 20th century. The nationals course will be 3-km long and use the banks of the Otonabee River as a natural feature in the races. The organizers also plan to build obstacles to enhance the features of the park.

As a national calendar event, the Canadian championships have drawn some notable sponsors. Shimano Canada’s head office is located in Peterborough and are the title sponsor for the event. “Shimano has always been about being at the front of the pack. Cyclocross is exploding in popularity and we wanted to show our support for such an exciting event”, says David Blondel, marketing manager at Shimano Canada.

Presenting sponsors include the Peterborough-based bike shop and outdoor adventure store Wild Rock Outfitters and American bike company Trek Bicycles who just hosted a round of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup at their headquarters in Waterloo, Wisconsin. “Trek Canada is very excited to support Cyclocross National Championships this year. Wild Rock, our Trek partner in Peterborough makes a great difference in the cycling community and we hope cyclists from
across Canada will travel to discover this amazing area,” said Jean-Francois Blais, Canadian sales manager for
Trek.

Additional local sponsors include Peterborough Volkswagen, Medallist Design and the Peterborough Cycling Club. For more information about the 2018 Canadian cyclocross championships visit ptbocx.com.
