It’s finally here! The world’s best ‘cross racers are in Liévin, France for the 2025 UCI cyclocross world championships. The big news was Wout van Aert’s surprise announcement that he would be racing. Mathieu van der Poel, who has been dominant this season—winning seven out of seven—says he is welcoming the competition. The Belgian is surely the only rider that could spoil his chances of another rainbow jersey.

Fem van Empel will be defending her jersey as well—but watch out for Puck Pieterse or Lucinda Brand. It will surely be a battle royale.

Team Canada is sending a strong squad to the 2025 world ‘cross championships, with top contenders in several categories.

In the under-23 women’s race, Isabella Holmgren, Mia De Martin, Dorothee Perron, and Marie-Fay St Onge will represent Canada. Isabella Holmgren is a strong favourite–she finished 12th at the last elite World Cup and 4th at the 2024 worlds. Unfortunately, her sister Ava is a last-minute scratch from the race.

The under-23 men’s team features Ian Ackert, Alexander Woodford, and Maxime St Onge, with Ackert aiming for another top result after finishing 6th in 2024.

For the elite women, Sidney McGill, Katelyn Walcroft, and Christiane Bilodeau will race, while Maghalie Rochette has opted out due to illness and injury. Tyler Clark and Cody Scott will compete in the elite men’s event.

Rafaelle Carrier leads the junior women’s team, joined by Nico Knoll, Lily-Rose Marois, and Maya Tasse. Carrier, the first Canadian to win the UCI Cyclocross World Cup, is a top contender. Aislin Hallahan, like Ava Holmgren, has also announced she won’t be racing.

In the junior men’s race, Emilien Belzile, Tristan Taillefer, Sagan Goertz, Monty Rigby, and Farland Lamont will represent Canada.

On Friday, Canada will race the team relay. Although there’s no livestream for that, you’ll be able to watch the rest of the races for free on the UCI YouTube Channel.

The racing runs from Jan. 29 to Feb. 4, and Canadian Cycling Magazine will be on site. Check our website, X, Instagram, and BlueSky for full reports.
