Canada’s Lex Albrecht won the Grinduro in Pennsylvania on Sunday. The former road pro has joined the Life Time Grand Prix circuit for 2022, having competed at Unbound Gravel last week.

Grinduro is a series of events held all over the world. The first race began in 2015 in California, and now has spread to Pennsylvanian, Scotland, Wales and Germany. The race, as the organizers explain, is just what the name suggests. “Gravel road race plus a mountain bike-Style Enduro resulting in one long loop of pavement and dirt, where finishing times aren’t based on overall loop time, but four timed segments (each roughly five-to-seven minutes).”

Albrecht was ahead on all four segments. Fellow Canadian Siobhan Kelly was second, with Shannan Steele coming in third.

The race is also different in that it has a non-timed “prologue” event where riders have to perform various tasks along the way.

“A gravel race usually has a #hakeout ride or two before race day. Grinduro does it differently: A prologue (…untimed!) with surprising “Feats of Strength” challenges along the way. Then at the end, check out the hearty Swiss snack that @ride_bmc (true to their Swiss roots) had in store for us,” Albrecht posted.
