So you’ve decided to get fitter and faster using these six secrets to really improve on the bike but don’t know where to start. Here are some hacks to use to get healthier habits and things you can start doing today.

Hacks for better habits

  1. Add extra incentive for a long ride by having a destination (for example, an errand or family party)
  2. Meet a friend to catch up on the bike or even conduct an on-bike business meeting
  3. Only listen to your music or podcasts on-bike (as long as you can do so safely), pairing your love of audio with training
  4. Commute to work by bike and tell a co-worker you will share gas money home. Your co-worker will bug you to ride more to save on gas
  5. Work out certain riding windows with your spouse. When you have your window, you will use it and will have to hold to a certain start/stop time
  6. Use a timer to turn off your Internet, and even lights, when it’s bedtime

Do this now

  1. Get your trainer room set up or buy a trainer to enable training throughout winter
  2. Turn the notifications off on your phone
  3. Make your bedroom pitch black and get rid of electronics in there
  4. Sign up for the spin classes or strength classes
  5. Get your bike tuned up Get signed up with a coach (Yes, as a coach, I am biased)
  6. Put the fruit in a fruit bowl on the counter, not hidden in the fridge Go for a ride, or run, now
  7. Talk to your spouse about your goal and where there might be date conflicts
  8. Take your waist and hip measurements for comparison each month
