Hard fought races at the Canadian XC mountain bike national championships

Canada’s top cross-country mountain bikers gathered in Canmore, Alta. on Saturday to contest the 2017 Canadian mountain bike championships. The town last hosted nationals in 2010 and 2011.

The four kilometre circuit at the Canmore Nordic Centre which was the site of the 1988 Olympic cross-country skiing events, had a beautiful backdrop of the Kananaskis Country mountains which lead towards Banff National Park.

Emily Batty (Trek Factory Racing) of Brooklin, Ont. successfully defended her elite women’s title while it was Peter Disera (Norco Factory Racing) of Horseshoe Valley, Ont. who took the win in the elite men’s race. Roxanne Vermette (Equipe du Quebec) of St-Ferrol-les-Neiges, Que., won the junior women’s title and Jenn Jackson (AWI Racing) of Oro Medonte, Ont., won the women’s under-23 title. Sean Fincham (Forward Racing-Norco) of Squamish, B.C. took the U23 men’s championship title and Brody Sanderson of Orillia, Ont. earned the junior men’s title.
