The gear we loved the most in 2017

Top apparel, essentials, accessories and more from 2017

With the year coming to an end, it was time to look back at the cycling gear that we put through its paces in 2017. Whether it was to help go a little faster, ride a little more comfortable or just something that worked great, there was some stand out performers from the year in gear. Here are the 10 pieces of gear that stood out in 2017:

Castelli Perfetto Light 2

As far as versatility, comfort and all-weather protection goes, the Castelli Perfetto Light 2 short sleeve had us covered. We loved we didn’t overheat in it but could keep riding very comfortably even when it was cold and wet out.

Shimano XC7 SPD

Shimano XC7

As far as cyclocross and trail shoes go, it’s hard to beat the Shimano XC7 SPD. With good adjustability in the Boa dial and velcro strap and lots of grip on the sole when dismounting was the only option, they are comfortable to move around in but feel quick and responsive on the bike.

No. 22 Aurora

While there were a lot of stand out bikes in the office in 2018, the No. 22 Aurora separated itself from the pack. With excellent ride quality, a top-end build featuring Campagnolo’s excellent H11 hydraulic disc brakes and Bora One 35 DB clinchers, and striking aesthetics the Aurora delivered on every ride.

Giordana FR-C Pro

Giordana FR-C Pro

The editors reached for the Giordana FR-C Canadian Cycling Magazine custom threads a lot in 2017 and will continue to in 2018. With a quality construction, a comfortable race fit, and good looks we couldn’t go wrong rocking our navy blue kit.

Fabric Scoop saddle

With three distinct shapes to choose from, The Fabric Scoop was a backside pleaser. It saw action in cyclocross races, on long gravel and adventure rides, gran fondos and hammerfest road rides.

POC Octal-X

POC Octal-X

With a durable outer shell, the POC Octal-X is a clean looking lid that kept our noggin protected in 2017. With a light construction, safety features to boot, and lots of ventilation the Octal-X was great to ride on the road and trails.

Mavic Ksyrium Pro Thermo road shoes

Mavic Ksyrium Pro Thermo road shoes

Cold feet have been the downfall of many winter cyclists but with the Mavic Ksyrium Pro Thermo road shoes our toes were kept dry and toasty. With a durable construction that keeps the elements out and a stiff sole they excelled when the weather was foul but we still wanted to go fast.

Garmin Edge 820

Garmin Edge 820

With navigation capabilities and all the features you need to keep track of your most rigorous training, the Garmin Edge 820 is a powerful computer that comes in a small package. Whether we were following a mapped out route in a new area or smashing out a workout the Garmin Edge 820 was always on the bike.

Spurcycle bell

The Spurcycle bell

Bells were never sought after bike accessories for top-end road bikes until the Spurcycle came around. With a loud ring, a stylish, durable and clean design, and easy installation, the Spurcycle bell helped us be noticed on our rides.

Kryptonite Evolution Lite Mini-6

A compact, durable and solid lock is a must have for any bike owner. We liked the Kryptonite Evolution Lite Mini-6 because it’s size allowed it to be easily carried, its reaches was sufficient to securely lock a bike in most places and it was reliable. Leaving a bike unattended was never a worry with the Evolution Lite Mini-6.
