Peter Sagan’s ridiculously impressive core workout

A split core exercise that looks excruciatingly painful

Three-time world champion Peter Sagan is currently at training camp in Palma de Mallorca preparing for 2018. To hone his speed on the bike, Sagan doesn’t just rack up the miles in the off-season. Core strength is key to delivering his totally impressive wattage into the bike efficiently.

On Tuesday, Sagan shared one of the core exercises he’s obviously been practicing on Twitter. To say it looks excruciatingly hard and painful is a bit of an understatement.  Lowering down into the slips, Sagan gets his core right down hovering above the ground. The grimace on his face says it all. A grunt from Sagan even makes a man on a seated spin bike turn his head to see what’s going on. He settles into a full splits.

With expected targets next season including a run at the spring classics and the Tour de France where he’ll race for the green jersey and stage wins, Sagan needs to be in top physical form. Sagan’s impressive power is well document but this is one of the most impressive feats of core strength and flexibility we’ve seen from the Slovak.

One Twitter user predicted future Sagan exploits. A win at a Monument like Milan-San Remo or the Tour of Flanders seems more likely but you can ever count out Sagan.
