Bettiol thought he won today’s stage of Tour de Suisse…but there was a rider ahead
The rider celebrated his 'win' but was visibly devastated when he learned he was second
Photo by: SirottiTeam DSM’s Andreas Leknessund took stage two of the Tour de Suisse today, but you’d never guess if you tuned in to see Italian Alberto Bettiol’s victory salute.

Leknessund had gone clear from a breakaway 20 km from the finish. The Norwegian attacked with a group of six riders that was part of an early breakaway in the 198 km race. He managed to stay ahead of the pack that was roaring behind, but a scant 38 seconds.
Bettiol must not have noticed, or had some problems with math, or maybe turned off his radio. Because when he took the bunch sprint…he thought he’d just won a stage of the Tour de Suisse.
