Staying with the champion, mostly, through the mud at cyclocross nationals in Peterborough, Ont.
Maghalie Rochette took to the course at the national cyclocross championships, in Peterborough, Ont., before the main event. Web editor Terry McKall followed the world-class rider as best as he could. He noticed that Rochette seemed to use her brakes quite sparingly. She even had some tips for McKall, who competed in the elite men’s race. For a certain muddy uphill section, the trick, according to Rochette, was to stay seated when putting power down to maintain good traction with the back tire.
