Trek presses refresh on the Remedy

A host of updates keep this 27.5" trail bike fresh for 2019

Trek has announced details on the 2019 version of its popular 27.5″ trail bike and, while the bike might look mostly the same, there’s a few key updates that keep it in line with what riders have come to expect from a mid-travel trail bike.

The theme for the new remedy mostly falls in line with “slightly bigger is better,” with bigger tires, slightly slacker geometry, and slightly more front travel, which now sits at 160mm. An exception to this is the Remedy’s frame, which is 100g lighter than previous versions.

As mentioned, Trek has slackened out the 150mm travel bike, bringing the head tube angle down to 65.5-degrees in the bikes slackest setting. To stay on-trend, the seat tube is 1-degree steeper than before, at 68.0-degrees or 68.5-degrees, depending on where you set the bikes Mino link. The seat tube has also been lengthened, so you will now be able to fit a 150mm dropper seat post to the three largest size frames (18.5, 19.5, 21.5″)

The new Remedy retains Trek’s Mino Link adjustment system, that changes the frames head tube angle, BB height, and seat tube angle. Putting the Mino Link in the “high” setting brings the bikes head tube angle up to 66-degrees.

All Remedy’s come with the RE:aktiv Thru Shaft rear shocks. One big change for 2019 is that Trek has gone away from the floating link found on its Fuel and Fuel EX line in favour of a fixed lower shock mount. Trek claims improvements in shock performance make the improved stiffness of a fixed link a better fit for the aggressive trail bike.

Since Trek does want riders to push the Remedy hard out on the trail, 2019 bikes ship with beefy 27.5 x 2.6″ tires. If that’s not enough traction to keep you rubber side down, there’s clearance for up to a 27.5 x 2.8″ tire in the frame.

If you’re looking for ways to ditch the pack and keep your pockets clean, the new frames are designed with threaded inserts on the underside of the downtube to fit Wolf Tooth’s B-Rad system.

As with the Slash, Trek is offering more colour options in each level of the 2019 bike. What the Madison, Wisc.-based company is not offering for the coming year is a Women’s specific Remedy model. In its press release explaining the decision, Trek stated:

“Market research and rider feedback has indicated that aggressive female riders want the same geometry and performance as the main line. We’ve also found that, while many female riders love our “women’s” colorways, just as many prefer the main line paint colors. Rather than offering separate “women’s” colorways, we’re giving all riders more selection by offering every model in two colors to suit a variety of tastes, regardless of gender. We’ve also improved the fit of the smallest 15.5” size so it works for more riders.”

Trek is offering the Remedy in three different carbon frame build options – 9.9, 9.8, 9.7 – and two alloy frame builds – 8 and 7 – as well as a frameset only option in each material for those that want to build up the bike to their own preferences.
