UCI mountain bike world championships are back at Mont-Sainte-Anne for a record third time this weekend. Three days into the event, and the classic Canadian venue is already delivering exciting racing.

Friday’s downhill qualifying took place under steady rain, making the infamous rock gardens at Sainte-Anne all kinds of greasy. Traction was at a premium all morning, and many riders crossed the finish line showing signs of having hit the deck mid-run.

Canadians, however, seemed to be doing fine. Finn Iles qualified in thirteenth in the rain. Ahead of him were Hugo Langevin in 10th and Mark Wallace in 11th. In junior men’s qualifying, four Canadians squeezed into the top 7 spots. And, in both elite and junior women, there were three Canadians in the top 15.

Before the rain arrived, Finn Iles took a full practice lap down the legendary Sainte-Anne downhill track. Hop on board with the Canadian downhill national champion to see the course from a rider’s perspective. Iles details whats new for 2019 along the way.
