Full Canadian junior squad qualifies at Fort William World Cup

Ethan Shandro top placed North American going into Sunday's finals

Canada’s increasingly strong crew of junior downhill racers have all qualified for Sunday’s final at the Fort William World Cup round.

Ethan Shandro (Trek Factory Racing) was the top North American in junior men. Shandro set the fifth fastest time behind France’s Thibaut Daprela (France), winner of the first World Cup round in Maribor, Slovenia.

Pemberton’s Lucas Cruz (SRAM-Tld Racing) was next, in seventh. Patrick Laffey qualified 11th, Elliot Jamieson (Norco Factory Team) 15th, and Seth Sherlock, in 20th, nabbed the last spot in Sunday’s final.

With five riders on the 20 rider start list, Canadians make up 25% of Sunday’s junior men’s race.

Austria’s Valentina Höll (SRAM-Tld Racing) continued her dominance of the junior women’s field. Höll was the fastest down the lengthy Fort William track by 26 seconds on Saturday. Anna Newkirk was the fastest North American in the junior women’s race, qualifying third behind Atherton Bike’s Mille Johnset.
