The Canada Cup XCO series has, temporarily, lost a stop from this year’s circuit. After initially postponing the Baie-Saint-Paul, organizers confirmed that the event will now not take place this year.

The initial delay was due to damage caused by early-season floods in the area’s infrastructure, including around the race venue. It turns out that the damage was more severe than initially thought.

“It is with regret that we announce the cancellation of the Quebec/Canada Cups, initially scheduled for the weekend of May 27 and 28 as part of the Grands Rendez-Vous Cyclistes de Charlevoix, due to the floods that have affected the region.” read a statement from organizers, Vélo Charlevoix. “The floods that hit our region caused considerable damage to local infrastructure, including at Camping Le Genévrier, the location of our event.”

The event’s organizers have hosted cross country races for a quarter century. The Baie St-Paul stop is a staple of Canada Cup cross country racing. Vélo Charlevoix is already looking forward to brining the national-level event back. Until then, the organization is looking at hosting a more local, Charlevoix Cup race towards the end of this season.

We thank you once again for your understanding and continued support. We are determined to overcome this and come back even stronger next year.”

We wish Vélo Charlevoix and the community the best in their efforts to rebuild from the floods and look forward to seeing cross country racing return as soon as it is feasible.
