Bodhi Kuhn wins Canada’s first medal at 2023 world championships

Canada scored its first medal at “super worlds” in Scotland when Bodhi Kuhn of Rossland, B.C. flew to silver in the junior men’s downhill on Friday.

Kuhn crushed the iconic Fort William track, finishing second behind Germany’s Henri Kiefer. Just 0.418 seconds separated Kuhn from the top podium step after four minutes and thirty seconds of racing on the rough, physical track in Scotland’s Nevis Range. Leo Abella of France rounded out the podium in third place, 3.964 seconds of Kiefer’s time.

Tegan Cruz was the next fastest Canadian on Friday. The Pemberton, B.C. racer finished sixth. Dane Jewett, racing in his first world championships, joined Cruz and Kuhn in the top 10, finishing eighth. Jon Mozell in 24th and Max Halchuck in 25th round out the Canadian junior men’s results.

Junior Women

Sophi Lawrence was the fastest Canadian in the junior women’s downhill. She finished 14th behind race winner Erice van Leuven of New Zealand. Joy Attalla followed in 19th, Kate McKenzie 20th, Kayley Sherlock 22nd and Sophie Ervington 25th.

Downhill racing continues on Saturday with the elite men’s and women’s medal rounds. Mountain bike events then shift to Glentress Forest for the cross country events, starting with Sunday’s XC Marathon. Here’s how you can watch racing live at home in Canada.
