Bouchard, Jackson win XCO Canada Cup Sherbrooke

New series leaders defend their maple leaf jerseys for third week of Quebec racing

Three weeks of Canada Cup cross country racing in Quebec wrapped up in Sherbrooke over the weekend, with familiar faces on the podium.

Like in Baie-St-Paul a weekend earlier, it was Leandre Bouchard and Jenn Jackson on the top step in the elite men’s and women’s races.

Bouchard was joined by his Pivot Cycles-OTE teammates in a podium sweep. Raphael Auclair finished second and Marc-Andre Fortier third.

In the elite women’s race, Jackson (AWi Racing) and Laurie Arseneault (CC ACQ) were again first and second, as in Baie-St-Paul. Spphianne Samson (CVM Assurance) rounded out the podium in third.

Junior and under-17 racing: Sherbrooke Canada Cup

Vincent Thiboutot matched his elder teammates results, winning the junior men’s race for Pivot Cycles-OTE. Behind Thiboutot, Charles-Antoine St. Oonge (Dalbix Siboire) and Jeremie La Grenade (Ride with Rendall p/b Biemme) finished second and third, respectively.

In the junior women’s race, Magdeleine Vallieres Mill (Quebecor Stingray) ended her weekend in the Canada Cup leaders jersey. Vallieres Mill won ahead of Juliette Larose Gingras (Velo Cartel x BL Coaching) and Julianne Sarrazin (Velo Pays-d’en-Haut)

Own Clark (Homestead Racing) and Ava Holmgren (Hardwood Next Wave) were the top under-17 racers at the Sherbrooke Canada Cup XCO. Isabella Holmgren (Hardwood Next Wave) and Greta Kilburn (Bicycle Express Racing) followed in second and third. Ian Ackert added another Hardwood Next Wave podium finish, with Benjamin Theberge (CC MSA) third in the under-17 men’s race.

Sherbrooke XC Classique

On Sunday, Sherbrooke added a classic, long loop style cross country race. Where modern courses feature short, clover-leaf style course designs, the Classique race returned to the original single loop style of cross country racing that developed in the 1990s.

Marc Andre Fortier (Pivot Cycles-OTE) extended his team’s podium streak, winning the men’s race ahead of Felix Burke (Rocky Mountain) and William Cote.

Laurie Arseneault (CC ACQ) led out Sophianne Samson (CVM Sigma Assurance) and Marianne Theberge (CC MSA) to win the elite women’s race.

Charles-Antoine St. Onge (Dalbix Siboire) and Magdeleine Vallieres Mill (Quebecor Stingray) were the fastest juniors in the retro race format. Marie-Fay St. Onge (Dalbix Siboire) and Owen Clark (Homestead Racing) won the under-17 Classique XC.
