The Brooklin, Ont. racer finished fourth in Rio, just two seconds off the podium. While Batty continues racing at the top end of the elite women’s field, she’s looking to make sure other young riders have the opportunity to chase their own Olympic dreams. Funds from the auction will go to the Durham Shredders youth mountain bike program.

On the auction page, the Durham Shredders say:

“Funds from the Bike Auction will be used to provide opportunities for Youth to get involved in the sport of Mountain Biking in the Durham Region through investment in youth programs, trails, skills parks, and events relating to the sport. A portion of the money raised will be used to provide opportunities for children of low-income families to take part in the programs at no cost using all required equipment provided by the program”

The bike itself is one of Batty’s spare Olympic bikes, in case anything happened to her race bike while training in Rio. When you put four years into one race, you make sure you have a back-up plan! The bikes were custom made for Batty by Trek for the 2016 Rio Games. The 2016 Trek Pro Caliber 9.9 SL frame forwent paint to make it extra-light, with just the bare minimum of Canadian decals made special for Batty’s Olympic race.
