EWS 2017 full season recap and highlights

Looking back at a wet year of wild racing at the Enduro World Series

What better day to sit back and watch over 20 minutes of Enduro World Series racing highlights than the busiest shopping day of the year, right? Just on time to give you a little reprieve from the shopping madness, the minds behind EWS have released their 2017 highlight reel. Whether you’re watching it from the comfort of your home, or huddled behind a cellphone in a corner of the mall / zoo, this is the collected best moments of the season. And what a season it was, with wet weather doggedly following racers around the globe and new riders stepping up to challenge the established contenders. Any longtime fans of downhill racing were thrilled to see Sam Hill cross over into the Enduro circuit. Any disappointment at not getting to see Hill on the World Cup circuit were quickly replaced by the excitement of watching him take on the EWS vets, all with his signature style and flat pedals. Hill’s presence certainly added some drama to the year, as early season success turned into consistent results and, eventually, Hill claiming the series overall title. On the women’s side, Cecile Ravanel proved again what a dominant force she is in EWS, and even crossed over to race a World Cup DH race for some added excitement. While Ravanel was out front, there was a heated battle for the places all year. The Canadian women, while making limited appearances, stepped right into podium positions when they did show up. Casey Brown and Andrean Latheir Nadeau both nabbed 3rd place finishes, at Aspen Snowmass, Co. and County Wicklow, Ireland respectively. Add Jesse Melamed’s win at EWS Whistler, a.k.a. Crankzilla, and it was a solid year for Canada at the EWS. Here’s hoping 2018 will be just as exciting, and maybe just a little drier on the weather front.
