This weekend, Frosty’s Fat Bike Race Series is bringing big money racing to a big mountain setting, with the American series heading north to Jasper National Park for three days of events and races. Saturday’s Endurance XC event is the big ticket event, with five thousand dollars in prizing being handed out between the men’s and women’s podiums. Leading up to the EXC are two days  full of group rides led by winter biking pros, a shorter XC race and a fat bike summit led by Gary Sjoquist of Quality Bicycle Products.

Saturday, Jan 13 is race day for the Endurance XC race, the weekends main event. Frosty’s fat bike race series has been running since 2014, mainly around its home state of Utah. The series first visited Jasper, Alta. last year, in 2017, and added the $5,000 cash purse to the event for 2018. Cash prizing will be handed out to the top three men and women in the Abominable category, which translates to Pro/Expert. There will also be Bigfoot (Sport) and Chilly (Beginners) categories in the EXC for those newer to fat bike racing.

Before Saturday’s big race, the weekend’s proceedings will kick off Thursday, Jan. 11 with lunch and event launch at Jasper Brewing Co, before the Frosty’s XC short course race in the afternoon. Events continue Friday with a group ride on Jasper’s scenic Overlander Trail. The ride is a fundraiser for Jasper Parks Cycling Association, and will include US National fat bike champions Ami Stuart and Emma Maaranen as well as professional endurance rider, Ty Hopkins. Friday afternoon is the fat bike summit, followed by a racer dinner for EXC racers at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.
