We all know World Cup downhill racing is just wildly competitive these days. But how close is it? Well, after three and a half minutes of racing in Loudenvielle, just 0.477 seconds separated Syndicate teammates Jackson Goldstone and Laurie Greenland. That’s 0.477 seconds over 2.5km of racing at an average speed of 44 km/hr.

The two both finished on the podium in France, fourth and third respectively. But where did Greenland make up the time? What do the differences look like in near-identical runs? Where is a margin that small decided? Well, GoPro put the two Syndicate riders’ race runs side by side to show just how little separated third place from fourth.

The result is mesmerizing. The two remain quite close for much of the first minute with just slight changes in advantage. Goldstone loses a bit of ground before his monster huck-to-off-cambre pulls him back up to speed.

The Loudenvielle track gets a little spicier in the second half, though. Watch to see where Greenland and Goldstone make up, or lose time below.
