Qualifying results: five Canadians through to junior DH finals in Lenzerheide

Qualifying results are in for the junior downhill men and women in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. Bodhi Kuhn leads the Canadian results. The Rossland, B.C. rider qualified second behind Germany’s Henri Kiefer.

Canadians Ryan Griffith (Pivot Factory) followed close behind in fourth with teammate Dane Jewett in seventh. Max Halchuck and Dylan Marino (Outlaw) just squeezed in under the 25-rider cutoff, qualifying for finals in 24th and 25th. Henry Sherry was less lucky, missing finals by o.527 seconds in 27th. Tegan Cruz, racing with the no. 1 plate, passed through the split time checks in the top 15 but had a mechanical and crossed the line 45th.

On the women’s side, all three Canadians fall on the wrong side of the UCI’s new 10-rider cut-off for the junior women’s downhill. Joy Attalla was 12th, Sophia Ervington 15th and Emma Wilson 17t.

One of the many rule changes for 2023 is to restrict the number of riders in junior women’s finals. Now only the top 10 make it through to get a chance to race finals. In 2022, junior women raced a seeding round, instead of qualifying. For the junior men qualification cut-off remains at is was in 2022 at 25 riders.

Fans at home will – for the first time – be able to watch junior DH finals broadcast live online for free. Junior downhill finals are early on Friday June 8, 2023.
