RockShox long-awaited Boxxer refresh officially breaks cover

Team-only fork makes its way to the masses

After a long development period under RockShox’s not-so-subtle BlackBox program, the new Boxxer downhill fork is finally public. While it’s been clear that a new version of the venerable model was in the works for a while now, the release does clarify some details.

To start, RockShox moves to thicker, 38-mm stanctions. That’s not quite as thick as some other brands, but RockShox says that the move to 38 mm came to be as a balance between ride quality and control instead of just all-out stiffness.

The Boxxer also benefits from a DebonAir+ twin tube air spring. It’s designed to be smooth for initial bump sensitivity, like a coil shock, but more tuneable via air pressure and tokens that cna be inserted into the fork to change the spring rate and progression. A larger, 14-mm air spring shaft (vs. 10mm) gives the Boxxer more negative air volume for the DebonAir+, allowing RockShox to achieve a finer tun on the fork’s end-stroke progression.

The Boxxer borrows several new technologies that initially went public on the Pike and Lyric forks. This includes ButterCups, designed to smooth out high-frequency vibrations with a promise to add comfort and reduce fatigue, and the Charger 3 RC2 damper.

For now, it is just the higher-end Boxxer Ultimate model, though a standard Boxxer will follow.
