Watch: Winning runs, highlights, and a wild French crowd in Les Gets Downhill

More from Amaury Pierron's sensational World Cup win at home in France

With French riders dominating this season’s downhill World Cup, the series’ return to France was destined to be a wild ride.

A classic, wide open track and sweeping grass turns made for the year’s fastest race. It also made for incredibly close racing. Positions were defined by tenths of a second, and even a small mistake could send a rider sliding down the standings.

Amaury Pierron stood above all of those, winning by a massive 2.3 second margin. To put that in perspective, the next 22 riders, places two through 23, were all within just five seconds.

The last man down the mountain, Pierron’s blazing fast run sent the massive French crowd, who showed up in force with the Les Gets World Cup coinciding with Bastille Day celebrations, into a frenzy.

On the women’s side, French rider Marine Cabirou pushed Tracey Hannah to within a second. Hannah, on the form of her life, was visibly thrilled to take her second World Cup win of the season.

In the junior race, Seth Sherlock and Patrick Laffey continued an incredible season for Canada’s rising generation of downhill racers. The pair finished second and third, on either side of Pierron’s Commencal-Vallnord teammate, Thibaut Daprela. Pemberton’s Lucas Cruz was close behind in fifth and Elliot Jamieson made another World Cup finals appearance. There’s now a long list of young Canucks that can be on the podium on a given weekend.
