Lucas Cruz adds second podium, while Vali Höll dominates junior women's race

Canada’s junior men started the World Cup season with a bang on Sunday in Slovenia. Ethan Shandro was second in his first World Cup, with Lucas Cruz joining him on the podium in fourth.

Junior Men: Canada doubles up on podium

In his first World Cup race as a first year junior, Vancouver’s Ethan Shandro (Trek Factory Racing DH) scored a big, second place finish behind French racer Thibaut Daprela (Commencal / Vallnord). Kye A’Hern of Canon Facotry Racing was third, followed by Pemberton, B.C.’s Lucas Cruz (SRAM / TLD Racing).

Ian Milley in 16th and Elliot Jamieson (Norco Factory Racing) in 17th were the other two Canadian juniors qualified for Sunday’s final in Maribor.

Junior women: Höll hauling in Slovenia

It was a good day for the two person SRAM / TLD Racing team in Maribor. Valentina Höll dominated the junior women’s race, making for two podiums, when Lucas Cruz scored fourth in the junior men’s race on Sunday. Höll set a winning time 9.943 seconds faster than second place Anna Newkirk (SRAM Young Guns Racing). Mille Johnset of Atherton Racing was third, finishing on the same second as Newkirk.
