Wyn Masters vs Zonhoven sand dunes
With tips from Mathieu van der Poel, World Cup DH racer takes on one of cyclocross' toughest courses
It was a snowy edition of Zonhoven this season, making for an even more auspicious Superprestige cyclocross debut for Wyn Masters, the Kiwi downhill and enduro racer.
The legendary Belgian ‘cross venue is renowned for repeatedly sending racers down steep sand embankments. While Master’s is used to technical descents, he recruits none other than Mathieu van der Poel, the Dutch superstar of cyclocross, road and cross country mountain biking, to get the inside line on they sandy drop-ins.
Masters meets up with the Dutch rider in his trailer to negotiate an exchange, offering help should van der Poel decide to extend his dominance into World Cup downhill racing. From there its off to Zonhoven’s sand-pit.
