Trek Canada is issuing a voluntary recall for select commuter, hybrid and mountain bike models due to the potential for brake failure.

The impacted bikes were sold with Promax Solve DSK 925 and Promax F1 DSK 927 hydraulic disc brakes, specifically the “Revision One” version of those brakes. Later versions of the Promax lever are not affected.

The Revision One Promax brakes were sold on Trek bikes (and potentially other bikes) between June 2021 and February 2023. The Trek models include several FX, FX Sport, Dual Sport, Verve models as well as electric FX+ and Verve+ ebikes.

According to Health Canada, “the brake hose may eject or pull out from the brake lever.” This is obviously not good, is your brakes will stop stopping you. As of June, 2023, Trek has received 13 reports of failures in Canada and another 195 failures in the United States. Amazingly, there are no injuries reported.

Riders with a potentially affected bike can take it to a local Trek dealer to see if it is subject to recall. Recalled bikes will be repaired free of charge by Trek.

The Revision One Promax brakes were sold on Trek bikes (and potentially other bikes) between June 2021 and February 2023.  The joint Health Canada / USCPSC  (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) recall applies to bikes sold in both countries. Trek reports that 16,877 bikes were sold in Canada and another 96,926 in the united states.

If you think your bike might be subject to recall, Health Canada and Trek recommend immediately stop riding and checking either with the Trek recall portal or with your local Trek dealer.
