A driver sped through a critical mass ride in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Saturday, injuring 50 of the 130 riders.

A driver sped through a critical mass ride in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Saturday, injuring 50 of the 130 riders.

Amazingly, nobody was killed in the crash.

The driver, according to news reports, ditched the car, took the license plates and fled. Police have no suspects.

Critical mass rides — a controversial movement in which large groups of cyclists gather to claim urban space, typically on the last Friday every month — originated in San Francisco in 1992.
