Barry recovering from Qatar crash

Canadian professional road racer turns his attention to second half of the season after breaking elbow and femur in Qatar.

Michael Barry of Sky Procycling underwent surgery to correct a broken elbow suffered from a crash during stage four at the UCI 2.1 Tour of Qatar last week. The Canadian professional road racer’s injuries also included a fracture to his left femur.

“I had surgery on my elbow last Saturday in Manchester,” Barry said. “I already have a lot more mobility and it should heal quickly. But, I also have a small fracture on my left femur which is stable and didn’t require surgery. This will require a bit more time to heal, roughly four weeks.”

Barry is not certain when he will be able to return to the peloton. He will likely turn his attention to events scheduled during the second half of the season.

“I’ll be away from the races for a while but don’t yet have an idea when I’ll be able to return,” Barry said. “I’ll have a better idea when I visit the doctors for a check-up next week. The injuries have obviously disturbed my early season objectives. I’ll just shift my focus and goals towards the second half of the season.”
