Hughes, Whitten, Kirchmann and Numainville among the contenders

Cycling Canada Cyclisme, previously known as the Canadian Cycling Association, has named its long list for the Olympic women’s road cycling squad. Canada had three road race spots and two time trial places; however, riders in the time trial must contest the road race as well. The final selection will be made on June 21.

Olympic Women’s Road Cycling Long list
Clara Hughes (Specialized-lululemon)
Tara Whitten (Tibco)
Veronique Fortin (Tibco)
Julie Beveridge (Vienne-Futurescope)
Karol-Ann Canuel (Vienne-Futurescope)
Leah Kirchmann (Optum Pro Cycling)
Joelle Numainville (Optum Pro Cycling)

Tara Whitten is expected to be on the track cycling team to contest the team pursuit and omnium events. If Clara Hughes makes the team, it’ll be her sixth Olympics and her third summer Games.
