Armstrong gives exclusive interview to Oprah Winfrey

January 17 on Oprah’s Next Chapter

Lance Armstrong will make an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Network’s (OWN) Oprah’s Next Chapter for an exclusive interview with the former queen of day-time television, Oprah Winfrey.

The 90-minute special will air on Thursday, January 17 from 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

An OWN press release stated that Winfrey will speak with Armstrong in his home in Austin, Texas. He is prepared to speak about the U.S. Anti-doping Agency’s (USADA) charges that he allegedly led a major doping scandal during his career and accusations that he cheated using performance enhancing substances.

Armstrong has not spoken publicly about USADA’s case since he was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned from Olympic sports for life.

The interview will also be streamed live worldwide on Oprah.com.

In related news, 60 Minutes Sports will air a special about USADA’s case against Lance Armstrong, scheduled on Wednesday, January 9. In an interview, USADA CEO Travis Tygart alleges that Armstrong offered the anti-doping agency a payment upwards of $250,000. The agency did not accept the offer due to a conflict of interest. It was reported that Armstrong’s lawyers denied that this ever happened.
