Tour de Quebec: Stages 2, 3 and 4

Abraham wins GC, points and 3 stages; Naud top Canadian

On July 26, Emile Abraham (Predator Carbon Repair) won the St. Augustin criterium, Stage 2 of the Tour de Quebec. It was his second stage win in a row after taking the race leader’s jersey on Stage 1. Abraham was able to overcome a strong lead out-train from the Jetfuel-Norco and Garneau-Quebecor teams who were both vying to get their designated leaders the win. Pierrick Naud placed second, out sprinting prologue winner Elliot Doyle (Médique presented by Silber Investment).

The third stage, on July 27, featured an 11-km circuit full of technical corners, unrelenting crosswinds and punchy climbs. The course certainly suited the strongest rouleurs in the race. After a strong breakaway established a gap of 50 seconds, it was not until the ninth lap that the peloton split in the winds and started to bring back the break. American Zack Noonan (Bikereg.com) won the stage ahead of Douglas Repacholi (Stevens Racing presented by The Cyclery). Frenchman Aurélien Passeron of Carbon Repair rounded out the podium.

The fourth and final stage was held in the heart of Quebec City on July 28, which was a technical and fast criterium featuring significant uphill and sections. At only 67 km in length, it was one of the more challenging courses of the race. The combination of a hard charging peloton and the technical nature of the circuit caused the race to split at the beginning. Only riders in the front groups, about 25 athletes, had any chance of doing well. In the final sprint, Emile Abraham, who was also wearing the yellow jersey, out sprinted Douglas Repacholi in second and Pierrick Naud in third.

The final yellow leader’s jersey was awarded to Emile Abraham. The blue, best young rider’s jersey, went to Pierrick Naud. Anton Varabei (Jetfuel-Norco) claimed the red king of the mountain’s jersey after a breakaway on Stage 3. Finally, Abraham also won the green points jersey.
