Canadian bicycle trade show cancelled for 2014

ExpoCycle, the annual Canadian trade show put on by the Bicycle Trade Association of Canada (BTAC), will not run in 2014.

“This year, as a result of many factors—including Interbike timing and convention-space availability in Montreal—my colleagues on the BTAC board of directors and I  have decided to cancel ExpoCycle for 2014,” said BTAC board chairman Kevin Senior in a statement. “During the hiatus, we intend to focus our energy and attention on making the association stronger with a new energy, focus and goals. We intend to make a number of very exciting announcements early in the new year.”

The 2013 edition of the show was held at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal from Sept. 8 to 10. The Canadian show preceded Interbike, North America’s largest bicycle trade show in Las Vegas, by a week. Many Canadian dealers found it a challenge to attend both events. In 2013, Specialized Canada and Cycles Lambert, who distributes Lezyne, Look, Zipp and other brands in Canada,  were among the companies that didn’t attend ExpoCycle.

Senior said that he and the BTAC board plan to bring ExpoCycle back in 2015.
