Fulcrum adds Speed 40 Clincher featuring top end tubular technology

Designed with the rider who might need to change a flat in mind but wants a top performing wheel

The most advanced wheels on the market are raced by WorldTour riders with a team of support cars and mechanics close behind. Tubulars are lighter and offer a better ride but for most of us, practicality rules the day and compromises are made in our wheel selection.

Fulcrum Speed 40 Clincher

Fulcrum’s engineers set out the design a wheel with the same performance and design characteristics as their tubular race wheels but with a clincher specific rim in order to be self-sufficient in the case of a flat.

With a 40mm profile made from the same carbon fiber as the tubular Speed 40T wheels, the Speed 40 Clincher uses MoMag construction which allows the rim to be shaped without the need for drilling holes for the spokes. The carbon that makes up the wheel is one solid piece to ensure that the integrity of the wheel is maintained, something Fulcrum say is compromised by drilling spoke holes. DRSC technology is found at the nibbles and is designed to dissipate the force of the spokes across a wider surface. This attention to detail to address the various forces experienced by the spokes, nipples and rim are intended to make the wheel last longer.

The rim uses Fulcrum’s 3Diamant braking surface for to dissipate heat, for confident braking in wet and dry conditions, and to ensure longer rim life. The front rim is laced with a smaller 28mm carbon fiber front hub with aluminum alloy flanges that is light and offers some aerodynamic advantage. The rear hub is made from aluminum and has oversized flanges on the drive side. USB ceramic bearings are used to keep the wheel rolling smoothly .
