Canadian cyclists are under a microscope.

In 2013, Canadian riders were the sport most vigilantly tested athletes for doping during the period from July through September, according to new data released by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport.

There were a total of 97 urine and blood tests done on cyclists, including paracyclists. There were 69 in-competition tests and 28 out-of-competition tests administered. The second most tested group of athletes in the country were Canadian inter-university sport participants, which covers a range of university sports.

Other sports that were tested often included athletics and hockey, but neither were targeted by nearly as many tests as cycling.

CCES has cracked down on doping in the lead-up to the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, and started by offering doping information sessions to competitors of the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.  In November, it introduced a doping hotline.
