The second leg of the UCI paracycling World Cup happened on Sunday in Yverdon-les-bains, Switzlerland, and it was once again Canadian women that were the ones to watch at the event’s time trial, with Shelley Gautier of Team Canada adding silver to the gold she earned in Maniago, Italy.

Riding in the Women’s T1 class, Gautier crossed the finish line just behind Yulia Sibagatova, a Russian newcomer to UCI World Cup competition. Gautier’s silver-medal finish was one of three medals that went to Canadian cyclists on Sunday, with Nicole Clermont, riding in the Women’s C5 class, also earning silver with a time of 20:50 after completing the time trial’s 14.5-km course.

In Women’s C4, meanwhile, Marie-Claude Molnar was the third podium-climbing rider, with a time of 21:32 that cemented her bronze medal performance—coming in 45 seconds behind Shawn Morelli of the U.S., that class’s winner.

Conspicuously absent from the weekend’s racing was Marie-Eve Croteau, the gold medal winner in Women’s T2 competition at the Maniago World Cup. Her reasons for not competing were related to that performance, though. Those results met her short-term racing objectives, so Croteau sat out the action in Switzerland to focus on training, with the world championships in Nottwil, Switerland and the Parapan American Games in Toronto just around the corner.

With the time trial complete, this second phase of the UCI paracycling World Cup continues Monday and Tuesday as the road race hits the streets.
