Canadian road championships heads to Lac Megantic

More than 500 cyclists expected to participate.

The Canadian Road National Championships will host more than 500 participants during nine days of racing beginning on June 21 and concluding on July 1 in Lac Megantic, Quebec.

Last year, Svein Tuft (Orica-GreenEdge) won both the Elite men’s road race and time trial. On the Elite women’s side Clara Hughes (Specialized-lululemon) won the time trial and cycling newbie Veronique Fortin (Tibco) surprised her competitors when she won the road race title.

The event is held directly following the UCI men’s stage race, Tour de Beauce and is expecting to draw a high-quality field. “The event is a critical step in our Long Term Athlete Development model,” said Mathieu Boucher, Canadian Cycling Association’s director of development.

“The up-and coming riders may have the exciting opportunity to ride against top Canadian riders from the WorldTour, such as Svein Tuft (Orica-GreenEDGE), Dominique Rollin (FDJ-BigMat), Christian Meier (Orica-GreenEDGE), Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Barracuda) and Michael Barry (Sky ProCycling), just to name a few.”
