Canadian women’s team pursuit squad wins silver at Manchester World Cup

On Friday, Canada’s women’s team pursuit squad, comprising Gillian Carleton, Jasmin Glaesser, Laura Brown and Stephanie Roorda, won silver at the first round of the 2013-14 track World Cup series in Manchester, England. They set a Canadian record with a time of 4:27.083. Great Britain got gold and broke a world record, for the second time that day, with a time of 4:19.604. Australia took bronze over the Russian squad.

In the qualifying round, the Canadian squad took the lead with a time of 4:28.054, riding at an average speed of 53.720 km/h and setting the Canadian record that’s they’d break later. Australia was third, with a time almost five seconds slower than the Canadians, 4:33.011. Great Britain, however, had the top spot with their first world-record setting run of 4:23.910.

Carleton and Glaesser rode to a bronze medal in the team pursuit with Tara Whitten at the London Olympics. At the 2013, Brown, Carleton and Glaesser won bronze at the world championships, in Minsk, Belarus.
